COVID-19 and Fitness

2020 has been a very interesting year when it comes to our everyday lives and things that have been affected due to the pandemic. At this time in our lives, we have a lot going on when it comes to online school, readjusting to work, losing jobs, and the upcoming election. With all of this in mind, it can seem like a chore to get out and get a workout in or to utilize a gym space as there is so much going on in the world that take priority. Take it from us, we ended up starting a business in the pandemic and are feeling the repercussions right now, but it is important to stay positive and relieve the stress when you can and this is where working out comes into play.

With COVID-19, many of us are worried about leaving our houses and trying to stay safe and healthy especially as we enter the winter months and things start to get colder. Since this is the case, now more than ever we need to be sure to prioritize our overall health and wellness, not only to help relieve stress but to also help in our fight against staying healthy with COVID right now. While being at home and working out is not ideal and can be a hassle, look to it as an opportunity to better your chance at staying healthy and look at it as a good way to relieve stress. Most of our stress hormones are through the roof right now and working out will help to resolve these issues for many people, whether you take 30 minutes or an hour a day to workout.

Some things that would be very beneficial at this time is take some family/friends and go on a social distance walk around your neighborhood or in a open area for 30 minutes. This will allow for you to be able to get out of the house if you are stuck there and stay away from people while also making sure that you are doing some form of exercise that will ultimately help with your mental health along with your overall physical health. If you are more comfortable with staying inside, take some time to stand up and walk around the house every 30 minutes or so that you are working. You can also spend some time doing body weight movements such as squats, pushups, shoulder taps, jumping jacks, high knees, butt kicks, anything that will elevate your heart rate and get you moving.

Now, here at Blades Fitness and Performance, we prioritize mental health as well along with physical health as it is important now to bring awareness to mental health. With COVID, now more than ever we need to prioritize mental health as we are starting to see the effects that being at home and losing jobs has had on some people and how many have not been able to fully deal with it. Due to this, we want to be here as a resource if you ever need anyone to talk to or ever have any questions on how to deal with certain things. If we do not know the answer, we will surely be able to point you to the right resources that will. What has helped us during this time is being able to take some time and play video games with our friends online, talking with them and catching up along with spending time when we can with family as we are both based out of Indianapolis and live a couple hours from family. As recommendations, take some time and do things that you love to do. Whether that is crafting, woodworking, video games, scrapbooking, or even reading. Making sure that you take this time to do the things that you love will help you tremendously. Along with that, please make sure to take the time to reach out to family and friends and either talk with them over Zoom, FaceTime, Skype, call them, or go and spend time with them social distanced. Keeping these connections will help to make you feel less alone and that you do have others out there experiencing the same thing.

As always, we are here for any and all of your needs. We will be running a holiday special too when it comes to online training where if you sign up with a friend for 3 months, each of you will have the opportunity to save $150 total off of training. We will take that 3 months to not only prioritize physical health and healthy behaviors as always, but will work to provide some mental health support as well! It is an investment for sure to work with someone that is doing all of this for you but it is an investment in your overall health and wellness which takes top priority given the conditions that we are currently in. If you ever feel that you need someone to talk with or you are ready to take the next step on your health and wellness journey, please reach out to us and we will work tirelessly to make sure that you become more confident, healthy, and love the way that you feel and look!
